Fire Code 2018

Ecoglo has developed advance technology for the production of high visibility Photoluminescent and anti-slip step edge and path marking systems. These provide for the safe and efficient movement of people 24 hours a day. Ecoglo will be happy to assist you with a solution to comply with Fire Code 2018 Clause 8.1.8 Photoluminescent marking and Clause 9.7.9.7 Mega underground developments.

8.1.8 Photoluminescent marking
a. In all buildings, except Purpose Groups I & II, photoluminescent marking/tape to guide occupants along evacuation routes to appropriate exit shall be provided:

  1. along internal walls and/or floors of the exit staircase, smoke-stop lobby and fire lift lobby:
  2. on the doors of the smoke-stop lobby, fire lift lobby and exit staircase
  3. along corridor with exit directional signs.

b. The width of photoluminescent marking or tape shall be at least 50 mm and be placed at low level. The bottom of the low level sign shall not be less than 150mm or more than 400mm above the floor level.
Omission of photoluminescent marking/tape is permitted on the following conditions:

  1. the emergency power supply of the exit lightings, exit signs and directional signs in the above locations shall be self-contained battery pack (single point emergency lighting system) in compliance with SS 563 or central battery supply backed up by stand-by generator;
  2. there shall be at least 2 emergency luminaires in the smoke-stop lobby, fire lift lobby and corridor with exit directional signs, such that no part of such spaces shall be left in total darkness should there be failure of any one of the emergency luminaires; and
  3. there shall be at least one emergency luminaire at every exit staircase landing.
9.7.9.7 Mega underground developments
j. Provision for emergency directional signage/generator
(1) Photoluminescent marking/tape to guide occupants along evacuation routes to appropriate exit shall be provided:

(a) along internal walls and/or floors of the exit staircase and protected lobby;
(b) at the exit staircase door; and
(c) in designated corridor with exit directional signs.

Note: Single point emergency lighting system – A system of emergency lighting employing self-contained emergency luminaires.

BCA CODE ON ACCESSIBILITY IN THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT 2019

Dramatically reduce the risk of accidents by installing Ecoglo high visibility step edge and path marking products. Ecoglo photoluminescent products create effective step edge contrast in daylight, provide a bright light in dark conditions and provide slip resistance in all weather environments. Ecoglo will be happy to assist you with a solution to comply with BCA Code on Accessibility in the Built Environment 2019 Clauses 4.11.2.2 and 4.11.3.1.

4.11.2.2 All steps shall be fitted with non-slip nosing strips between 50 mm and 65 mm in width with permanent contrasting colours.
Note: The contrasting colour of the nosing is meant to ensure that the tread edge is clearly visible in descent.

4.11.3.1 Detectable warning surfaces shall:
a. be provided at the top, bottom and intermediate landings leading to another path of travel;
b. extend the full width of the stairs for a depth of 600mm commencing 300mm back from the stairs; and
c. consist of flooring material that is:
(i) contrasting in colour with the surrounding flooring material; and
(ii) of a different texture from the surrounding flooring material.
